Deadly California wildfires continue to spread

(AP) – Twenty-nine people have now been confirmed dead in a Northern California wildfire and another 228 are unaccounted for.

Ten search teams have been working in the town of Paradise, which was largely incinerated last week, as well as the surrounding communities in the Sierra Nevada foothills.

Authorities have called in a DNA lab and teams of anthropologists to help identify victims.

Fire officials in Southern California expect to confirm more destroyed homes when they give an updated report Monday on a wildfire that has burned more than 130 square miles in western Los Angeles County and southeastern Ventura County since Thursday.

At least 177 homes have been burned to the ground and two people are confirmed dead.

Despite strong Santa Ana winds on Sunday, authorities say no additional structures were believed to have been lost.
