The recent settlement in the Carl DeBrodie case is about more than just money.
Rudy Veit, the lawyer for Carl DeBrodie’s biological mother Carolyn Summers, says it’s more important that lessons are learned from DeBrodie’s treatment in a group home and subsequent death.
“And it really brings to life that people who have spouses, children, parents in homes they need to do a little more checking,” he said, “we can not feel as secure as we would like to feel.”
Veit says numerous individuals and agencies dropped the ball in DeBrodie’s case. He announced the civil settlement last week. DeBrodie was found encased in concrete in a storage unit in 2017. Several people are now facing criminal charges.
