Developer wants to bring ice rink and bocce ball to Columbia

A proposed development in south Columbia involving an ice rink, music stage, bocce ball, pickleball and a two-story restaurant heads to the city council for a January 3 vote.

The issue was first-read at Monday night’s meeting.

The ice rink would be used in winter months. While the planning and zoning commission approved the proposal in by an 8-0 vote in November, they expressed concerns about outdoor stage’s size and potential noise.

Those concerns are likely to come up again at the January council meeting. The development would be built at Discovery Parkway and Endeavor, not far from Perry Phillips lake.

Columbia hasn’t had an ice rink since the Ice Chalet, which closed in 1981.
