Downtown Columbia crime will be a key topic on 939 the Eagle’s “Sunday Morning with Ken and Brian” from 8-10 am.

Columbia police chief Jill Schlude will join hosts Ken Rice and Brian Carl Sunday morning at 8:30, followed by Columbia Office of Violence Prevention administrator D’Markus Thomas-Brown live at 9.
They’ll tackle downtown crime statistics, public safety and the overall vision of Columbia’s Office of Violence Prevention. They’ll also take your phone calls.

The city council heard a 22-page presentation this week about downtown Columbia crime trends. The report says crime in downtown Columbia has increased 48 percent in the past year. Violent crime downtown has dropped from 22 to 21 in the past year. Violent crime is defined as homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assaults.
Property crime downtown dropped from 106 to 79 in the past year.
