Dozens more water rescues, evacuations for Missouri Task Force 1

Missouri Task Force 1 saved 12 folks from Florence floodwaters in one shot Tuesday morning.

They were trapped in a van on a flooded road between the towns of Leland and Bolivia, North Carolina.

The Boone County-based task force has now rescued or evacuated hundreds of people trying to survive after the hurricane. Spokesman Gale Blomenkamp says it has been a rewarding deployment.

“[Residents] are very gracious and very pleased that we’re there to help them,” Blomenkamp says to Missourinet.

More than 50 members of the local task force are in the Carolinas right now. Most are focused on water rescues. Others are checking structural integrity of flooded roads, and performing other tasks.
