Drinkwitz supports SEC efforts to play fall football

Mizzou football coach Eli Drinkwitz said on Wednesday he is proud of the SEC’s decision to keep trying to have fall sports this season.

“I can’t believe we’re looking at our watch on Aug. 12 and we’ve got people that are saying we’re not playing football on Sept. 26,” Drinkwitz said. “That’s like the St. Louis Cardinals canceling the doubleheader on Sunday because it’s forecasted to rain.”

The Big 10 and Pac 12 this week pushed football off until at least the spring because of coronavirus concerns. The SEC, ACC, and Big 12 are among the conferences still trying to play in the fall.

Drinkwitz says it appears no one has transmitted the coronavirus within Mizzou’s football facilities. There have been a few positive cases, but coach says the percentage of positive tests is well below Boone County’s rate.
