Columbia city officials say the $23 million new terminal project at Columbia Regional Airport (COU) is scheduled to be completed by 2022.

The budget approved by Columbia’s City Council includes a $363,000 increase for COU.

The current terminal at Columbia Regional was built in 1968. The airport terminal’s main funding source is a hotel tax that Columbia voters approved in 2016. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the state Department of Transportation (MoDOT) are also providing some funding.

City spokeswoman Sydney Olsen tells 939 the Eagle that the project is scheduled to be finished by the summer of 2022.

Columbia Mayor Brian Treece has described the new terminal as a generational investment that will put further destinations in play.
