Early voting underway in municipal elections

Early voting is underway for next Tuesday’s municipal elections. Boone County residents will decide Proposition 1 put forth by county commissioners asking if the county should exempt senior citizens from certain increases in property tax liability on their primary residences. The Columbia Public schools has three candidates seeking two seats on the board of education. They are the incumbent Jeanne Snodgrass, Alvin Cobbins and John Potter. The city of Columbia has a hotly-contested race in its second ward between Lisa Meyer, Robert Schreiber III, and write-in candidate Lucio Bitoy IV. And in Columbia’s first ward, city councilman Nick Knoth is facing a recall after taking a job as a lobbyist with the Missouri Realtors.
