Ex-Callaway County Collector admits to embezzlement

It turns out the former Callaway County Collector was collecting a lot of cash for herself.

Pam Oestreich pleaded guilty in federal court on Monday to embezzling nearly $300,000 from taxpayers.

“On more than 100 occasions, this public official stole directly from the people she was elected to represent,” said U.S. Attorney Tim Garrison. “She will be held accountable for violating the public trust and abusing her position.”

Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway says Oestreich started slipping money in to her personal account in 2015. She used a type of shell game to move the money around to different accounts.

“This audit not only provides the details on the more than $300,000 missing from the Callaway County Collector’s Office, but also outlines the deliberate actions taken to conceal the theft,”Galloway said.

The 59-year-old Fulton native is looking at 41 to 51 months in prison. She will also have to pay the money back.

Oestreich resigned this March. She was first elected Callaway County Collector in 2002.
