Arrest made after fatal Columbia crash

Officers have made an arrest after a person dies in a crash in northwest Columbia.

Police report the accident happened a little before 11 p.m. Saturday on Stadium Blvd. near Blackfoot Rd. That is north of I️-70 close to L. A. Nickell golf course.

Investigators say the car driven by 28-year-old William Lalka (pictured) of Columbia went off Stadium and hit several trees and a utility pole. Passenger Andrew Helmreich, 28, of Columbia was killed. Lalka and a second passenger had non-life threatening injuries.

CPD says Lalka ran from the crash scene. He was arrested early Sunday near Iris and Lilac drives after a manhunt. He’s accused of DWI and negligent manslaughter.
