Father due in court over accidental shooting of son in Fayette

The Fayette man facing criminal charges in the shooting death of his 15-year-old son was due in court on Thursday morning.

Eddie Valencia was scheduled to have his initial arraignment before Judge James Cooksey.

Court documents say Valencia told authorities he was checking his gun on Feb. 20 and did not think it was loaded. He allegedly pulled the trigger while it was pointed at his son and it went off.

Valencia is charged with first degree involuntary manslaughter.
