Fire protection district places bond issue on April ballot

The Boone County Fire Protection District has a $6 million bond issue on next month’s ballot.

You won’t pay more in taxes if it passes, just extend your current bill. It continues what voters approved in 2014.

Boone County Fire’s Gale Blomenkamp says on Wake Up Columbia crews are using fire trucks that are more than 20 years old.

“We’ve done a good job taking care of those apparatus so they can be functional, but any time you look at technology, whether that be in your personal vehicle or fire truck, it’s jumping leaps and bounds every time we go out there and purchase.”

Blomenkamp also says the funding would start the process to replace a couple outdated fire stations. Boone County voters will decide Apr. 6.
