Firefighter injured in central Columbia house fire, pet dies

A firefighter is injured in a house fire that killed a pet in central Columbia.

Authorities say the fire started at around 1 a.m. Saturday on Lindell Drive, near Broadway and West Boulevard. Crews went inside the home and put out the flames in 20 minutes. One firefighter was taken to the hospital for second-degree burns. That firefighter has been released.

Everyone inside the home got out in time, but firefighters had to recover two cats. One was resuscitated, but the other did not survive.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire. It did about $275,000 in damage.
