Missouri’s governor says a fallen Marine from Wentzville who was killed in late August in Afghanistan put his life on the line protecting U.S. service members and allies.

Governor Mike Parson has ordered that American and Missouri flags be flown at half-staff at all government buildings Thursday to honor U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz of Wentzville.

The governor’s proclamation notes Lance Corporal Schmitz had been deployed to Afghanistan, less than two weeks before he died.

The Missouri House and Senate both honored Lance Corporal Schmitz with a moment of silence, during Wednesday’s veto session in Jefferson City.
