Flood crest projected Thursday in Jefferson City

Forecasters have stretched out the flood warning until Monday now in mid-Missouri.

The water keeps rising on the Missouri River, now expected to crest on Thursday in Jefferson City at the moderate flood stage of 26.5 feet. The river crested overnight in Glasgow, barely below the major flood stage of 32 feet, at 31.98 feet.

The Associated Press reports the Missouri River hit a record level when it crested in the town of Waverly northwest of Marshall on Tuesday morning, even beating the historic 1993 flood levels.

Route 179 near Sandy Hook just on the other side of the Missouri River from Boone County is one of the latest roads to close because of flooding. That happened Tuesday. Highway 87 closed Tuesday north of Boonville and south of New Franklin. Watch for more Katy Trail flooding, including possibly near Easley south of Columbia on Wednesday.
