Flu outbreak prompts Boonville R-1 to cancel classes Friday

A litany of businesses, schools, universities and public offices closed their doors due to the weather conditions Thursday afternoon.

Morning rain mixed with a freezing cold front made for some treacherous travel in mid-Missouri.

One school, however, closed Friday for a different reason.

Boonville R-1 Schools sent word out Thursday afternoon that it will not hold classes on Friday due to an outbreak of the flu.

The district didn’t say how many cases prompted the closure, but Missouri health officials are seeing a spike in the virus already in 2018.

Major roads were clear on Friday, but officials said to watch for slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses.
