Forecasters project more flooding into July

For the first time in weeks, the Missouri River dropped below flood stage Sunday in Jefferson City.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientist Kevin Low says get used to the flood warnings through July.

“We don’t expect a widespread, longterm flooding,” Low told Missourinet. “But episodic, moderate level flooding is likely.”

Snow melt and a lot of rain have washed down the Missouri River. The water went beyond 1993 levels at times in northwest Missouri.

“It’s just very, very wet,” Doug Kluck with NOAA says. “Any sort of major perturbation that causes a lot of heavy rainfall, even if it’s normal rainfall in some cases, will lead to flooding.”
