Former Columbia police chief charged with DWI

The Columbia municipal prosecutor’s office confirmed Thursday that charges have been filed against former Columbia police chief Ken Burton.

Burton was arrested two weeks ago on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in the area of Broadway and McBaine Avenue in Columbia.

He was released on summons.

According to KMIZ, Burton is being charged for driving while intoxicated and failing to stop for a red light.

Burton announced last December he was resigning as Columbia police chief, days after he was placed on administrative leave. He had run CPD since 2009.
