(AP) – A former Columbia school bus driver has been sentenced to four years in prison for possessing child pornography.
Twenty-three-year-old Dakota Wayne Smith was sentenced Monday on nine counts of possession of child pornography and one count of evidence tampering.
The Columbia Daily Tribune reports Smith was fired as a driver for Student Transportation of America after his arrest in September 2017.
Michelle Baumstark, spokeswoman for Columbia Public Schools, said at the time that none of the district’s students were involved in the incident that led to Smith’s arrest.
A task force began investigating Smith in July 2017 after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
