Former lawmaker on Missouri senate redistricting

Redistricting will be on many Missouri lawmakers’ minds soon after the release of U.S. Census data.

Former Senate Minority Leader and current St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann says he thinks drawing senate districts with more diverse demographics is a challenge worth taking.

“It’s impossible to draw 34 competitive districts in the senate, but the more you can draw, the better it is for the process,” said Ehlmann on Wake Up Columbia.

Ehlmann was on the committee that drew the most recent state senate districts from the last census cycle. He says population growth in places like Boone County could make an impact on how they are drawn this time around.
