Former Mizzou runner earns Olympic spot

A former Mizzou long-distance runner is headed to the Tokyo Olympics.

Karissa Schweizer finished second in the women’s 5,000-meter race at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon Monday. She finished the race with a time of 15 minutes, 28 seconds, claiming one of three qualifying spots for the Toyko Games.

Schweizer will be the first woman from Mizzou to compete for the Olympic track team since 1996. She won six national championships during her college career.
