Fulton council strongly recommends masks, issues no requirement

The city of Fulton will not require people in town to wear masks.

The city council on Tuesday night decided to just strongly recommend it, for now, to slow the spread of the coronavirus. Council members heard from residents and business owners for more than an hour during the special meeting.

Fulton mayor Lowe Cannell said during an interview on 93.9 The Eagle’s Wake Up Columbia on Tuesday he got hundreds of phone calls and emails from people with strong opinions on both sides.

“It’s been pretty wild. I’ve been involved in local politics for over a decade and I’ve never seen anything like this. People are so strongly one way or the other.”
