Ashland’s embattled police chief has resigned from his position as part of a settlement reached with the city.

Our news partner ABC-17-News broke the story Wednesday evening that police chief Gabe Edwards had resigned.  Ashland city administrator Kyle Michel has issued a news release which says the city received Chief Edwards’ resignation letter at 4:45 on Wednesday afternoon.

Edwards had been suspended since July, and Scott Young remains the interim chief this morning. Mr. Young has been serving as Ashland’s interim chief since late July. A five paragraph release from city administrator Michel says Young will remain as the interim chief until the board appoints a police chief. Young retired from the Columbia Police Department as a lieutenant in 2017 after 20 years of service to CPD.
