George Floyd demonstrators block downtown Columbia traffic

About a hundred demonstrators block traffic and chant “no justice, no peace” in downtown Columbia.

Wake Up Columbia’s Branden Rathert had a confrontation with some protesters Monday night.

Witnesses say at least two people in the road got hit by cars. ABC 17 reports the Walgreens at Providence and Broadway was damaged.

Mizzou graduate student Brittany Fatoma organized previous protests in town. She says organizers she works with want to avoid violence.

“I want to present and organize something that I would feel ok with bringing my child, and still get the work done.”

Fatoma says they are hoping that Columbia police can start using implicit bias training for its officers on a continual basis. Listen to The Mike Ferguson Show interview with her:

  1. I would have been terrified. I’d like to think I would slowly roll forward but knowing what’s going on around the country I may have punched the gas to get where I would feel safe. I imagine the guilt that person may feel knowing someone got hurt.
