Government offices closed for MLK Day Monday

Monday is a federal, Missouri, county and city holiday, in memory of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King.

President Ronald Reagan signed legislation into law in 1983 recognizing MLK Jr. Day as a federal holiday. It was first observed in 1986.

Banks and financial institutions are closed Monday, and the Missouri Legislature will not be in session. Columbia and Jefferson City offices are closed, too. Both city councils will hold their meetings Tuesday.
