Governor grants clemency, commutes sentence for Columbia man

Gov. Mike Parson granted clemency Wednesday to a Columbia man who has been battling for a chance at parole.

Dimetrious Woods was convicted of drug trafficking in 2006.

He was released on probation in 2018 after a judge decided parole rule changes could be applied retroactively. Missouri’s Supreme Court then overturned that decision.

Parson said commuting Woods’ sentence was “an act of mercy for a man that has changed his life.”

Woods will serve the rest of his 25-year sentence on house arrest.
