The Rape and Abuse Crisis Service helps domestic violence victims get what they need when they come in through the emergency room.
RACS Director Alden Henrickson says a special grant helped train Jefferson City nurses to spot abuse-related injuries.
“They’re trained to gather evidence should the victim want to press charges,” Henrickson says. “They also have a better sensitivity of what the victim is going through.”
Henrickson says the mid-Missouri RACS Shelter is always busy, but staffers see more women and their children during the holidays.
