Heavy rains expected Friday, wintry mix possible Saturday

It’s a rare, winter flash flood watch for mid-Missouri. That’s in effect until midnight on Saturday.

National Weather Service meteorologist Jayson Gosselin says the forecast calls for a little rain on Thursday. Expect three-to-four inches by early Saturday though, with a lot of it coming down starting Friday afternoon.

“The soil is already saturated. We’re getting a lot of runoff into those creeks and streams, and that’s kind of our biggest concern right now.”

Then Gosselin says that rain may change to freezing rain and sleet on Saturday morning, with a couple inches of snow falling that afternoon.

“It looks like mid-Missouri is going to get at least some winter weather. There’s some uncertainty in exactly the amounts, due to the track of the system.”
