Helias, Blair Oaks capture football state championships

Two Mid-Missouri high school football teams were victorious during state championship weekend in Jefferson City.

Helias Catholic captured the Class 4 championship Friday night with a 35-30 win over MICDS. The Crusaders finished the season with a perfect 14-0 record. It’s the school’s third state championship in football and its first since 1998.

Blair Oaks prevailed in the Class 3 title game by winning a shootout over Maryville 62-40 on Saturday night. Sophomore quarterback Dylan Hair had 468 yards of total offense for the Falcons, setting a MSHSAA state championship game record. It’s Blair Oaks’ fourth state title in football, and the second in the last three seasons.

Both state championship games were played at Adkins Stadium at Jefferson City High School. Attendance at the games was limited to 1,500 tickets, which sold out in seven minutes online, according to MSHSAA.
