Highway Patrol following 65 leads in the death of South Dakota woman

COOPER COUNTY, Mo. – The Missouri State Highway Patrol is following up on more than 60 leads in the case of a South Dakota woman who was found dead on Interstate 70.

40-year-old Melissa Peskey was found dead in the driver’s seat of a car in Cooper Count on Dec. 13 at 10:30 p.m.

It was originally marked down as a crash, but an autopsy on Dec. 17 found she had died from a gunshot wound, fired by someone from outside the car.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Scott White said her 5-year-old and 11-year-old children were found in the car with her. They were uninjured.
