An Ashland man died in the Boone County Jail on Friday afternoon, after being restrained by officers while he was being booked. 43-year-old William Joseph Gipson was observed exhibiting signs of medical distress about 6:30 p.m. He became unresponsive and died, according to a media release from the sheriff’s office. Deputies say Gipson was uncooperative during booking about three hours earlier and had been physically restrained. At the request of Sheriff Dwayne Carey, the state highway patrol is investigating.
