Confederate marker on Moreau Dr. in Jefferson City in Sept. 2020

Historic home owner offers alternative for JC Confederate monument

Will the “Rebel Rock” end up at the old Dulle House?

There is a push to remove the Jefferson City Confederate marker that commemorates General Sterling Price’s decision not to attack Jefferson City during the Civil War.

Former Jefferson City councilwoman Edie Vogel owns the Dulle House where Union troops were once quartered. She says she’d take the marker, but only if it comes to that.

“I would like to see it stay where it is because I think it historically occurred out there that they turned around, and I like to refer to it as a peace monument.”

The Jefferson City Council this week delayed a vote on potentially removing the stone on Moreau Drive.
