The state Senate has given final approval to legislation that encourages Missourians to observe Historically Black College and University Week in September.

State Sen. Barbara Washington (D-Kansas City) sponsors the bipartisan bill, which will be heard Thursday morning by the House Higher Education Committee. Senator Washington will testify before the House committee.

Senator Washington’s one-page Senate Bill 718 recognizes the importance of Jefferson City’s Lincoln University and St. Louis’ Harris Stowe State University, the two historically black colleges and universities in Missouri.
