Homecoming week at Mizzou

Expect University of Missouri graduates to pack Columbia hotels and restaurants this weekend. It’s Homecoming week.

Mizzou Alumni Association executive director Todd McCubbin says alumni are fired up to have a new Nobel Prize winner, professor George Smith.

“I think it also cements what they’ve always known about our university, and what a strong academic university it is,” McCubbin says. “What a great message to be able to share with our alums.”

The homecoming parade starts at 9 a.m. Saturday in downtown Columbia, and the football game against Memphis is at 3 p.m.

“When you get up in the morning and see how many people are lining that parade route and how many people show up for campus decs the night before, it just is a really special tradition that a lot of campuses don’t have.”

McCubbin says he went to Alabama’s Homecoming festivities last week, and the parade in Tuscaloosa only lasted about 15 minutes.
