Boone County Prosecutors are warning banks to beware of homeless persons cashing fraudulent checks in a scheme organized by out-of-state felons. CoMoBUZ.com reporting that criminals from Georgia have been caught stealing mail from Columbia businesses looking for checks. They use computers to lift info off he checks to forge new checks made out to the homeless person. They help the homeless person het ID and open a small savings account at local banks so they can cash the checks. At least three cases have prosecuted in Boone County.
