Howard County authorities issue evacuation notices

Howard County authorities say it’s time for some folks to evacuate because of rising flood waters.

Emergency management officials posted the notice on Wednesday for a few communities near Route Z. They said it’s for the residents of New Franklin south of Sulphur Street, the residents of Franklin, and people in the Petersburg area.

MoDot says more than 300 state roads closed right now because of flooding (see the latest map here). Highway 24 is closed near Brunswick. Highway 36 is shut down west of Macon. Highway 40 is under water near Rocheport. They’re still asking for help to sandbag there, Hartsburg, and elsewhere along the Missouri River.

The Missouri River is now set to hit 33 feet in Jefferson City, and stay at major flood stage until next Friday.
