I-70 and Highway 54 in Kingdom City should be diverging diamond interchange, MoDOT says

State transportation officials say the heavily-congested I-70 and Highway 54 interchange in Kingdom City should be updated to a diverging diamond interchange, similar to one in Columbia.

The I-70 and Highway 54 interchange is packed with truckers hauling goods from coast to coast, and is also frequently used by motorists heading to and from the Lake of the Ozarks. The state Department of Transportation also notes North Callaway school’s campus is nearby, and there’s a possibility of a distribution center in that area as well. That would bring additional trucks to the interchange.

There are also numerous gas stations and restaurants near the interchange. MoDOT is recommending that I-70 and 54 be updated to a diverging diamond, similar to Columbia’s I-70 and Stadium Boulevard interchange.

You can see more details about the project on MoDOT’s site. MoDOT says the project’s expected cost is $6.6 million.
