January sentencing date set for convicted Columbia murderer Lynlee Renick; motion for new trial is expected

A Boone County judge who presided over one of the most highly-publicized murder trials in recent memory has given Lynlee Renick 25 days to file a motion for a new trial.

The Columbia woman was convicted last week of second degree murder for the 2017 death of her husband Ben, a well-known snake breeder.

Prosecutors say Lynlee killed her husband for money, sex and freedom.

Renick took the witness stand for hours at trial, and says Michael Humphrey of Jefferson City killed Ben. Lynlee’s attorney told jurors that Humphrey threatened to kill Lynlee Renick, if she told anyone what happened.

Judge Kevin Crane has scheduled a January 24 sentencing date, in Columbia.
