JC council approves changes to firefighter shifts

Jefferson City firefighters will now spend 48 hours straight on the job.

The city council on Monday night approved moving to the extended shifts on a one-year trial basis.

Firefighters say it will allow them to spend more time with their families. They also say it will allow staffers to work a second outside job.

Jefferson City crews now work 24-hour shifts.
