Will redevelopment of the old Missouri State Penitentiary site include more than what the contractor is promising?
Jefferson City Mayor Carrie Tergin says she is optimistic.
“Chesterfield [Group] has brought in several other interested parties that may want to build housing or other businesses, bringing other construction into the site.”
The developer already plans to build a hotel with an attached conference center. Tergin says an economic development grant may also be on the way to help repair damage to the prison done by the 2019 tornado. The U.S. Commerce Department in January announced a $1.5 million grant for redevelopment of the old prison site.
