JCCC officer assaulted by inmate, returns to work

An officer at Jefferson City correctional center is recovering after being stabbed in the face by an inmate.

A DOC spokesperson confirmed the assault happened Monday as the officer was moving the inmate to a segregated housing unit.

The inmate reportedly slipped out of his restraints and attacked the officer with a homemade weapon he was hiding in his clothes.

The officer was taken to the hospital with multiple lacerations to his face. He did return to work later that day after getting stitched up.
