JCPD arrest man after chase inside grocery store

A man is in custody after a foot pursuit inside of a grocery store on Thursday afternoon.

Jefferson City police said they tried to pull over Joey Hampton’s car but he failed to yield.

He proceeded to pull into the parking lot of Shulte’s grocery store and ran inside.

During the chase, officers couldn’t determine if Hampton was trying to grab a weapon from his pants, so multiple store patrons were ordered to the floor for their safety.

He was eventually taken into custody where it was revealed he was trying to hide drugs.

Hampton is currently at the Cole County Jail.
