Jeff City councilman talks funding for port

If Jefferson City builds a barge port downstream from the Capital City who’s going to pay for it?

Jefferson City Councilman Rick Mihalevich chairs the Heartland Port Authority. He says various public and private groups could fund the project.

The group is asking the state to deed over 116 acres of land along the river next to the Algoa Prison for the port.

It would provide access to barges for products coming into and going out of Mid-Missouri.
