Jeff City firefighters experimenting with longer shifts

Why would you want to work a straight 48 hour shift at work?

That’s what Jefferson City firefighters are trying out on a trial basis.

Fire Chief Matt Schofield says his crew now works 24 hours on, 24 hours off.

“When you have that shift, you really don’t have time to separate yourself from the work and recover.”

Schofield says firefighters also like the 48 hour shifts so they can spend more time with family or work a second job.

Columbia Fire recently decided against going to the 48 hour shifts.
