Forecasters still expect the Missouri River to crest just below the major flood stage of 30 feet in Jefferson City on Friday.
The water is just under that level already at the capital, at 29.55 feet early Thursday on the way to a crest of 29.8 feet. The river will fall in a hurry starting this weekend.
Floodwaters have made their way back to Jefferson City’s airport. Crews had the main runway cleared for a couple days, and had started some cleanup.
