Jefferson City business owner gets probation, fine for tax evasion

A Jefferson City man who pleaded guilty to tax evasion will avoid jail time.

A federal court sentenced Ryan Phegley to three years of probation Wednesday. He also must pay a $30,000 fine and more than $180,000 in restitution.

Phegley, 39, admitted in July to not paying taxes on more than $600,000 of income. He owned Phoenix Freight Lines from 2010 to 2014.
