Jefferson City Chamber CEO talks ABB transition

You can bet there are plenty of staffers at Jefferson City’s ABB plant wondering if it’s time to update their resumes.

The Jefferson City Chamber’s Randy Allen admits the sale of the electric company’s international holdings to Hitachi is a surprise.

“800 employees, which is a lot of employees, and also the facility, which is the biggest facility that ABB had in the United States,” said Allen. “It’s not something that they can just leave easily.”

The plant in the Missouri River bottom makes electric transformers.

Westinghouse originally built the Jefferson City factory before they sold to the Swiss-based ABB.

The sale doesn’t become final until 2020.
