Original story (June 19, 2017 5:00 a.m.): Jefferson City police arrest a man on child abuse charges.
Police say witnesses reported a 23-year-old man punching and kicking his four-year-old daughter repeatedly Saturday at the Capital Mall.
The man was gone when police got to the mall, but they say they were able to identify him from video surveillance.
Officers then found the man and child at a home, where they took the daughter into protective custody because they said she had obvious injuries consistent with being assaulted.
The girl’s father was arrested on suspicion of child abuse. Police and the Department of Family Services are still investigating.
