Jefferson City mayor backs new Port Authority

You could soon see a lot more barges navigating the Missouri River.

A House Committee is discussing a plan this week to deed over 100 acres of riverfront property to the Heartland Port Authority .

“We’re thankful that MoDot was very supportive and allowed us to begin this process and give us the approval to establish the Port Authority.  So that was a really huge step forward,” Jefferson City Mayor Carrie Tergin says.

Tergin is lobbying for the state of the art river port to be built just downstream from the Capital City.
