Jefferson City officials tout hotel occupancy increase

Officials say more visitors are staying in Jefferson City hotels and motels.

They say the latest occupancy rate was 58 percent, one of the highest in years.

Still, the Convention and Visitors Bureau’s Diane Gillespie says those big conventions are still going somewhere else.

“We are limited as to what we can accommodate right now, due to the size of meeting facilities that we have.”

Funds from the lodging tax charged to those visitors continue to pile up. Part of it is earmarked for a dedicated conference center.
